What are the cool things to do at Camp All-Star?

There are so many fun things to do at Camp All-Star! There are so many sports and activities you can choose from.

We also have cool stuff to do every night at camp. Sometimes we have all-camp games, like Dodgeball, All-Star Idol or Capture the Flag, or we’ll have creative stuff to do- like Skit nights and Wacky Counselor night. You will also have time to hang out with all the new friends you make at Club Mezz every night or at an evening program like our Social.

We have Pro Sports Day, which is a fun day of sports and spirit competition where the campers are assigned to one of two teams. This is one of the best days at camp- full of fun and non-stop activity!  Campers love the surprise announcement!

We even take trips out of camp too! You can enjoy a fun trip to the Funtown/Splashtown Amusement Park, the beach, movies, bowling, and Portland Sea Dogs Minor League Baseball games.

What is a day like at Camp All-Star?

Click here for a typical day at Camp All-Star.
Before you come to camp, you get to tell us exactly which activities and sports you want to do when you are at camp. We put together a personalized schedule for you that you get the first day of camp. We divide each day into activity periods, and the schedule shows you where to go during each period.

Basically, we wake up each day, everyone cleans their dorm room, we get breakfast and immediately jump into morning activities. After a fun-filled morning, we all meet up again for lunch. When we are done with lunch, we head back to the dorms to rest up for an hour and get ready for the afternoon periods. After an afternoon of activities, we then all have dinner together, an all-camp “Wrap-Up”, where you will be praised for your daily accomplishments, and each evening we will have a fun activity with your friends. Following the evening activity, we go to “Club Mezz” where you get to hang out with your friends and eat a healthy snack. After “Club Mezz” we head back to the dorms to get ready for bed and another fun-filled day at Camp All-Star.

Where do I live when I’m at Camp All-Star and who will I live with?

At Camp All-Star, you will live in a dorm with other campers and counselors. You will have a roommate that is your age and enjoys some of the same sports as you do, and there will be a pair of counselors assigned to supervise you and your roommate.  The dorms are divided between boys and girls, and we keep campers of the same age group together on a hall.  If there is a person that you want to live with, you can let us know prior to camp.  As long as both campers request each other on the Goal and Interest Form in the spring, we will make sure you are rooming with your friend. Most campers come to Camp All-Star wanting to meet and live with new people, so we try to match every camper with a roommate that shares similar interests and likes the same activities.

What is the Camp All-Star staff like?

The Camp All-Star staff is the best! The All-Star staff includes college head coaches, high school head coaches, college and high school assistant coaches, and college athletes.  Only the most qualified counselors and coaches come to Camp All-Star.  They are friendly, positive and enthusiastic and are at camp to help you have the best summer possible. They know their sports and activities inside-out, so you can ask them for help or for advice anytime you need to. They will coach you throughout the day and make sure everything runs smoothly in the dorms at night.  If you need a friend to talk to- they are there for you.  Our camper-to-counselor ratio is 4-to-1, which means lots of individual instruction for you! Camp All-Star staff members are fun, committed to being the best in their sports, and ready to help you have an incredible experience at camp!

Will I make friends at Camp All-Star?

Whether it is your first time coming to camp or you are a returning camper, you will be able to immediately jump into activities and meet people.  You’ll be able to make friends in the dorms, in your activity periods, and throughout the day.  We do a lot of things together as a camp, so there is always an opportunity to hang out with the new friends you make.

Are there any competitions at Camp All-Star, and do you have to “try out” to play?

At Camp All-Star, we think competitions can be fun - but they are not the most important thing. We have games and competitions with other camps we call inter-camp, but we don’t make anyone “try out” to be on the team. We want anyone who wants to play to be able to play on the team. The important thing is to have a great attitude and good sportsmanship. We think that this is even more important than winning. We do like to win though too! No matter what your skill level is, if you want to compete or get better in a sport or activity, you will have the opportunity to do so at Camp All-Star.

I like Basketball. How much can I play my favorite sport during the day?

Basketball is one of the major sports at Camp All-Star. Because of this, we let you play basketball at least two periods every day. In Maine, an activity period is about 90 minutes, so you could actually play basketball for about 3 hours a day if you wanted to!

If your favorite sport is what we call a “major sport,” then you can have it in your schedule up to two times every day. If it isn’t listed as a major sport, but it is one of the many other skill sports we offer, you can have it in your schedule every other day. We encourage you to try as many new activities as you want to, so we try really hard to get you the schedule you want: your favorite sports mixed with some new activities that you’d like to try that you might not be able to do at home.

How often can I communicate with my parents?

At Camp All-Star, you will be so busy having fun that you may not even think about wanting to talk to your parents while you’re gone. Unlike most camps, we do give our campers the chance to call home once every two week session on the middle Sunday evening (or afternoon for international campers).  You can fill them in on all the new friends you are making and how you are doing in your daily activities. You can catch them up on all of the fun you are having and let them know if you need anything. Your parents can also email you as often as they would like by using our secure online camper and photo email service!

You are also encouraged to write your parents any time you want to. We like for campers to write home to tell their parents about their schedules and all the fun things that Camp All-Star has to offer. You could write them every day if you wanted to! Camp flies by so fast that it will be time to see your parents before you know it!
