Blocking in volleyball may look easy, but there is more to it than jumping in the air with your hands up. As a blocker, its your job to stop the ball and force the oppenent to make a play on the ball. Below are some helpful aspects to blocking and keys to a successful block.
Positioning For a Block
Start by getting in a ready position. Square your hips and shoulders to the net. Pick a spot, ready your legs to jump high into the air and hold your space.
While the ball is with the opponent, place your elbows out in front of you and your palms facing the net about eye level. You should be ready to jump and block the ball quickly because the ball can be hit at anytime. Watch the setter and hitter’s tendencies and timing, this will help you better understand how to best block their hits.
